Our Thanksgiving trek back East was a success. Maybe it’s because Eli is a little older or maybe it’s because we have a few under our belt, but this trip went extremely well. Staying with someone, anyone, for nine days can present some challenges and don’t get me started on the amount I had to pack. But it helps that Grandma has two parks located across the street from her apartment and that the city provides enough stimulation to tire out even the most active toddler. Can you say honk-honk?
It makes me happy that Eli will have many of the same holiday traditions I had growing up…
…playing with cousins…
…hanging out with aunts and uncles…
…cooking in Grandma’s kitchen…
…dressing up…
…and, of course, a few new traditions that we’ve created as a family. Like the Black Friday boat ride. Which is way better than the Black Friday Loehmann’s Wrestling match.
It’s amazing to me that Eli gets to play with his cousins in the same park that Adam and his cousins played in WAY BACK when. That fact (and the opportunity to eat good bagels) makes the long flights, lost sleep and massive exposure to germs worth it. Here is where I start singing the “Circle of Life”.
Whew.
It’s good to be home.
