Clear eyes, full boobs, can’t lose.

So what if I watched four seasons of Friday Night Lights while breastfeeding?  Does that make me a bad mother?

(You don’t really have to answer that.)

(Although I do worry that my son has heard so much football already that subconsciously he will gravitate toward the sport. Yikes. Please be a nerd.)

If you’re one of those people who’s still wondering if you should watch this show, yes, you should. Here’s why:

1. The first episode. Holy crap. Not since Lost have I been this blown away by the first episode of a television show. I don’t want to give anything away but once again, holy crap.

2. The cinematography. This show is filmed in Austin and they use hand-held cameras to achieve more of a documentary feeling. Surprising shots and unique camera angles make it feel like you’re eavesdropping on something real happening instead of watching something scripted. The backdrop of the Texas hill country doesn’t hurt either.

3. Kyle Chandler. You guys. He’s the PERFECT Texas football coach. I’ve liked him since Early Edition (am I the only one who watched that?) and think he does a balls-to-the-wall job with this role. There were a few times, after especially rousing Coach Taylor pep talks, that I started longing to be part of a team again.

4. The relationships. I thought this was a show about football. It’s not. It’s a show about family, community, race, love and honesty. And don’t even get me started on the Taylor’s marriage – hands down the most realistic one I’ve ever seen on television. Yes, this show is about football. But not really.

5. Connie Britton. I had never seen this woman before watching FNL. Oh my. She’s now my new girl crush. Her hair is amazing, she kicks ass as the Coach’s wife and she’s the kind of woman that you want to be friends with in real life. Not to mention she makes me want to live in a place where saying y’all is normal.

And of course, an honorable mention should go to Taylor Kitsch, the actor who portrays the troubled Tim Riggins. I really appreciated his, ahem, acting talents.
