Geeky Love

by Tarable

I adore being married to a geek. In addition to the sheer joy of being able to geek out with someone, I’m always getting geeky gifts.

Like the birthday that I got an external hard drive. Or the time that my husband glued magnets to the back of our spices because we couldn’t fit a spice rack in our tiny kitchen. Not to mention the numerous camera accessories he’s bought me over the years.

But my favorite is when he visited a laser-etcher, checking on a potential manufacturer for his business, and had this sample made for me…

Come on...we are still newlyweds, after all.

What about you? On this Ballentine’s Day, I want to know about the geekiest gift you’ve ever received. Spill it in the comments and let us celebrate the romance that is geek love together.

I would SO love an external hard drive, or camera accessories for b-day prezzos...wow. Best gift ever was a travel first aid kit when I was going to live in the back country for a summer. Closely followed by a AAA membership for my 21st birthday from my boyfriend at the time. Erm, he had good intentions. Lately, tho...well. Lately I'm old enough to by myself shit. :) And a good thing, considering!
  • I like the first aid kit...and really want to hear about your summer living outdoors! That sounds like a great story.

And besides, the way you're working it, you may just end up getting some geeky gifts after all.
  • So cute- I love Adam- and I never thought I'd say this, but I LOVE geeks! ; )
  • You know what they say Jacq...once you go geek, other men you don't seek!

(Actually they don't say that, but they should!)

(And yes, I did just make that up.)

    (It rhymes nicely though, yes?)

My girlfriend gave me a shirt for Christmas with Edward James Olmos' face on it. And for Valentine's Day she built me a drying rack for my (recent) hobby of building miniature fantasy terrain out of plaster.

I have given her any number of geeky gifts (as we too are both geeks) including: computer memory, an LED light up faucet, and a shirt with hearts on it like an old school videogame life bar that "fills up" the closer she is to me (when I'm wearing the matching shirt). Ah, we are quite the pair. :)
  • I wanted that same Team Edward shirt Kato! You two sound perfect for each other...and extremely geeky. I love it.

It is, in fact, quite awesome. As is she. :)

And yes, quite geeky. While other people were out eating at fancy restaurants for Valentine's Day, we enjoy a trip to a nature center to watch birds get banded and then enjoyed an afternoon nap. Bliss.

while it's not tech per se (patrick is still developing his inner geek), the best gift he's ever given me was a camping trip to taos for a wool and fiber festival about a year back. my nerdy knitting loving self was in heaven ^_^ my dad has always been uber supportive of my inner geek self so he's constantly showering his only techie child with books about web development and other fun computer peripherals. i love being a geek :)
  • Mimi, I think a wool & fiber festival definitely qualifies as geeky. And a camping trip to attend is super cute. Nice work.

And wish Patrick luck on fully embracing his inner geek...you're just the lady to help with that.
