My messy mission statement

I was talking to a friend about my return to the stage and some of the fears I had. She suggested I write down why I wanted to get back up there. Without worrying about how it would sound, I scribbled my reasons for wanting to try stand-up comedy again. My hope is that perhaps, by making the list public, it will serve as a reminder of why I’m subjecting myself to the torture of trying to make strangers laugh. Again.

  • the fear of not being funny
  • the challenge of writing new material
  • a creative exploration into who I am
  • the dedication and energy needed to pull it off
  • the chance to employ some old-school improv skills
  • to take the risk and put myself out there
  • to feel the rush of adrenaline when there are laughs
  • to help my writing
  • blog content
  • meet new people in the community
  • to find out about other creative opportunities
  • shine up that stage presence
  • the mic, bitch

It’s happening soon. Excuse me while I go work on some new material.

  • You GO girl. I think you'll be fantastic on stage and I'll be in the audience cheering you on all the way (promise no heckling unless agreed upon beforehand...could be staged).

  • Our "Stand-up suicide" pact worked! It was exciting and an honor to be your "First time back stand-up buddy" Thanks for dragging me into it. I'll definitely be going again.

  • Tara - how'd it go? I loved your reasons for doing stand-up again. They have inspired me; not the first time you've done this, I will add. I love your blogs. I also visited the queen of spain's blog - also enjoyable. What the heck is a widget? I find myself getting lost easily in blogland. There are so many links to so many people's stuff, that after many minutes, I've strayed far from the original site I wanted to explore (your's, namely). This can be good, I realize, but my brain hurts, and I feel like a kid who got pushed on to the wrong bus or something.
