My messy mission statement
By Tarable | February 5, 2008
I was talking to a friend about my return to the stage and some of the fears I had. She suggested I write down why I wanted to get back up there. Without worrying about how it would sound, I scribbled my reasons for wanting to try stand-up comedy again. My hope is that perhaps, by making the list public, it will serve as a reminder of why I’m subjecting myself to the torture of trying to make strangers laugh. Again.
- the fear of not being funny
- the challenge of writing new material
- a creative exploration into who I am
- the dedication and energy needed to pull it off
- the chance to employ some old-school improv skills
- to take the risk and put myself out there
- to feel the rush of adrenaline when there are laughs
- to help my writing
- blog content
- meet new people in the community
- to find out about other creative opportunities
- shine up that stage presence
- the mic, bitch
It’s happening soon. Excuse me while I go work on some new material.

Tara - how’d it go? I loved your reasons for doing stand-up again. They have inspired me; not the first time you’ve done this, I will add. I love your blogs. I also visited the queen of spain’s blog - also enjoyable. What the heck is a widget? I find myself getting lost easily in blogland. There are so many links to so many people’s stuff, that after many minutes, I’ve strayed far from the original site I wanted to explore (your’s, namely). This can be good, I realize, but my brain hurts, and I feel like a kid who got pushed on to the wrong bus or something.

Our “Stand-up suicide” pact worked! It was exciting and an honor to be your “First time back stand-up buddy” Thanks for dragging me into it. I’ll definitely be going again.
