Thanks for the wisdom and the welcome. I'm overwhelmed by all the support shown to me by the CF community and it's only been ONE class. So far, so good.

Finn, I like thinking of CF as "recess for the day". It's amazing how invigorated I felt after the morning session and how the good feeling kept me going all day.

And the cult comment was meant to be humorous more than anything else. After living in Boulder for as long as I have, I've seen quite a few cults...including the cult of beer snobs, Ironman athletes and Ultimate Frisbee. Besides, as long as I'm not asked to have sex with any old men, then cults don't sound all that bad. ;)

Tara, welcome to CF Roots and kudos on taking the first step!! Roots is my second CF gym that I've been to and I absolutely love it...everyone is super supportive and Nicole and Eric will do whatever it takes to help each person develop as athletes and individuals. By no means am I a pro but I can push myself harder with CF than I ever thought possible and that confidence rolls over into other aspects of my life :) And don't worry, I still get nervous before each class but as soon as we get going it all fades away. Congrats again on coming in, that's the hardest part :):)

And John is right, it's a cult because once you start and see the results, you will never want to quit!

The only reason people get into the cult mindset is because it works so well, once you get into it you'll be so psyched you can't believe that the rest of the world isn't in on it...

I've had a friend after me for a couple years as well to check out CrossFit. Every time we did a CF workout together, I ended up getting hurt so I never really got on board (even though I loved the idea of it) until I saw the Foundations course offered by Roots. "PERFECT!", I thought to myself and quickly got signed up.

As they say, the rest is history. It was a great experience in a safe and supportive environment and I've now incorporated CF into my overall fitness regime. While I was as nervous as you going in, I was psyched to quickly realize that one's "ego is checked at the door". In other words, it's completely okay to go lite on weights, etc. The coaching encourages working at a level that fits where you are w/o all the typical group pressure to measure up to some predefined performance level. Plus, if we're talking about Nicole, she is a crack-up and keeps it really fun.

Regarding the cult comment, I can't believe there's anything literal behind any comments that have been made. I've trained for major endurance events with people over the years who have been in real athletic cults here in Boulder and CF ain't even in the same timezone. However, you will find some seriously dedicated and supportive new people among the folks attempting to become masters of the workout of the day. For me it's kind of like my recess for the day...playful, educational and heck if I ain't finding strength that I thought was long gone. In short, no regrets...
